Purpose: To create a gold border or background for your titles.
Difficulty: Intermediate
In Short: Use black and white brush to draw image, then use layer styles to emboss it, then finally use some adjustment layers to achieve the look that you want.
Step 1:
Start with a new image, with white background. Press D, to reset your brush to black and white. Select your brush tool. Set the hardness to 0%. Start drawing on top of your white layer with black until you achieve something similar to this, or something you are comfortable with.
Step 2:
Apply the layer style, Bevel and Emboss, to the layer you've just drawn. I used the specifications to the right. The main part to pick up is the Gloss Contour. Set it to Sawtooth 1, it looks like two mountain peaks.
Step 3:
Apply the layer style and you should get something similar to the right.
Step 4:
Add an adjustment layer, and select Gradient Map. The nice thing about adjustment layers is you can always go back and tweak it to the way you like. Click onto the gradient so you can edit its colors.
Step 5:
Use these two hex colors, #aa9c6b and #ffffc4. Place the dark yellow at location 25% and 75% and the light yellow at 0%, 50%, and 100% location.
Step 6:
Click OK and you should get something similar to this... Hold on... Almost done!
Step 7:
Add another adjustment layer, Curves, and set your curves to something similar to the right. You can play around to add more or less contrast to your image. Click OK and that's it!
Step 8:
For the finishing touch, you can add your own logo and text!
